Stories and Insights
Team Isabel & Peggy Sue
They say to never work with kids and animals but I disagree - a children’s portrait session is all the more fun when you have both! A beautiful young lady, a patient horse, and bringing the studio to the client means great images come to life. Read more about young Isabel and her trusty side-kick, Peggy Sue. Is there a rider in your life?
Let's Go to the Prom
High school is a time for making memories and nothing is more memorable than the prom. Last night I photographed two young people for L&N STEM Academy’s prom at the Southern Railway Station in Knoxville. I was not even half as cool as these kids at that age!
Retelling the Myth of Prometheus
Marisa Mitchell, aka Mars, is a kickass artisan, working in metal, concrete, and glass. I visited her in her metal workshop to do an environmental portrait of this woman handling fire, thus retelling the myth of Prometheus - spolier alert: this time the gods are beaten.
People of Note: Magnolia Matrimonies
Another entry for People of Note, to introduce you to a business whenever I do a head shot. Earlier this year I photographed the crew from Magnolia Matrimonies, wedding officiants helping to spread the love in Knoxville. Colleen, its owner, and Nikki and Evan are bringing joy to all couples in our fair city!
Kelee: Fashion + Maternity
Kelee is nearing the end of her pregnancy and I was fortunate to be the one to capture her beauty and strength in these portraits that show maternity can be fashionable. Check out her session here!
Baller: Sophie at the Net
Sophie is a baller with attitude and it shows in her portrait session. Capturing personalities is made easier when the person is in a setting that is comfortable and natural for them - which is why “the studio” should be anywhere. Check out more of her images from her time in front of the camera in this post.
Put Me in Coach: Coleman and Holden in the Sandlot Series
“Put me in, Coach - I’m ready to play today.” Holden and Coleman, two young men with a love of baseball, were photographed in black and white, aptly demonstrating that ball is life and not to be taken anything but seriously. Child’s play IS a serious matter to children, and wouldn’t you rather have images that reflect that than fake, “nice” smiles? Let’s capture your child’s personality!
Celebrate Your Child's Talent
Scout is a girl willing to take on learning to play the violin - and that’s no small feat! Her accomplishment is celebrated through a portrait. What a way to tell your child “You make us proud” and “Well done!”
Branding, Selling, or Just Being Yourself - It's All Good
Getting in front of a camera can be scary but look at it as a way to show your true colors, which make you who you are and beautiful. I recently made some images for another photographer’s branding. It doesn’t have to be for business, you know - you DESERVE to be seen in a portrait!
Logan's Heirloom: Introducing the Go Book
It is wonderful when the end result of a portrait session arrives - the printed album! Watch Logan’s reaction to hers!
Welcome to 2019, Welcome to the Studio
I am excited about the new year because it opens with a new home for Stephanie Richer Photography - my studio in downtown Powell! And I have a special offer to celebrate - read more here!
Santa Claus is Coming to Town - AGAIN!
You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout - why? Because SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN AGAIN for pictures on December 23rd at the Southern Railway Station! Check out some of the photos from their Christmas Kickoff on December 2nd and if you missed it, mark your calendars for the 23rd! Let’s have some fun - again!
Joseph's 1st Birthday and Studio Anywhere
Joseph’s mom allowed me to do a formal studio session with the birthday boy but even better, she did not have to bring him to my studio - the studio came to him! Read this post about how it can be done and made easier for families with young children. And check out Joseph’s style - just a year old and already a fashion influencer!
Rockabilly Maternity
Kayla presented a fun challenge: a maternity portrait featuring her and the father-to-be, all done in a 50’s rockabilly pinup style. Challenge accepted! Check out how great she, Shea, and Baby Bump looks in this unique portrait session.
Black and White Study for Kids
I don’t like the school pictures or sports team pictures kids get shoved into - I like them feeling themselves and in black and white.
Night Time Study of the Nude Figure
A cinematic study of the nude figure, which I did after seeing this light. I love a good dark and moody shot.
Emmaline: Channeling Her Inner Aphrodite
A styled bridal shoot delves into fantasy and mythology with the discovery of an abandoned arena. See how Emmaline channeled her inner Aphrodite here.
A Chance Encounter in New York
Street portraiture - not street photography - is something I define to be the few minutes when you meet a subject randomly and make a portrait of them in the environment. In New York City recently I met a delightful woman named Tiffany who gave me the opportunity to do just that!
Street Portraiture in Old City
I crashed a photographer’s shootout in the Old City area of Knoxville and had the opportunity to do some street portraiture. Courtney was a beautiful model for this and got my creative flow going. Check it out.
Studio Portraiture and Maternity Photography: Alannah's Study
Alannah and her lovely pregnant body allowed me to do a study of her in studio portraiture. It isn’t not your run-of-the-mill “photo shoot” but is that what you’re really looking for? Or do you want a work of art?
