Retelling the Myth of Prometheus

Some time ago, I started following this woman’s Instagram feed. Mars is a skilled metal worker, as well as with glass and concrete, and I was intrigued by seeing this slight woman easily managing steel beams in her workshop. So, I reached out and had a chance to meet with her. Mars graciously agreed to be the model for an environmental portrait.

Now, in Greek mythology, Prometheus was a Titan who dared to steal fire from Mount Olympus, the home of the gods, and bring it to Man for his use. This angered Zeus, who had Prometheus bound in chains and set an eagle to tear out his liver for eternity. This myth, as well as the term “The Light Bearer” came to mind when I met Mars. So, I wanted to retell the myth, but this time it is a woman and this time the gods are beat: she has tamed fire and makes it her tool, without apologies or repercussions.
