Timing is Everything: Andrea and Zachary's Proposal

Timing is everything.

As with any marriage proposal in the Smokies, we are always watching the weather.  Because here is how it is when the warmer months arrive – rain here is not . . . “gentle.”  Quite often it can be one helluva downpour as rain-laden clouds get grabbed by the mountains and figure, “Well, if you’re going to keep me here, I might as well drop what I’m carrying.”

So, Illinois native Zachary asked me if we could move up an hour his proposal to Andrea.  Rain was threatening and of course I agreed.  I tell my proposal clients, I work to be flexible for them because, well . . . yeah, who knows what Mother Nature can throw at us.

And he proposed in one of the most beautiful spots in the GSMNP, along the Little Pigeon River.

But the clouds were gathering, so we made quick work of the post-proposal photoshoot.

While shooting, I could see some drops in the viewfinder of my camera.  And then . . . *SPLAT*!  Followed by a second *SPLAT*!  Two big, gooshy raindrops.  I looked at Zachary and Andrea and said, “We have maybe 10 seconds before the skies open – let’s get back to the cars NOW!”

And . . . I was right.

It became evident that any attempt to run back to the cars was not going to help, so I asked if they were okay getting more soaked than, well, they already were.  Zachary and Andrea agreed for one last picture and we got this:

I liked Andrea’s comment:  “Okay – that was worth it.”

Here’s to you, Andrea and Zachary – I always appreciate a couple who will play along, despite the condition we left in!  Much happiness to you both!
