Ahoy - Babies on Board!
Pinup Maternity Sessions Bring the Fun!
Not every mother-to-be wants the traditional “flowing gown with a flower crown, billowing around her, in a woodland setting” maternity session. There is nothing wrong with that. I do enjoy, though, a classy lady like Kayla who called me up and said, “I want a pinup maternity session!”
She and Shea - who thought this would be a fun idea as well - are expecting not just one but two - identical twins! - baby boys later this year. Now, Kayla is not a tall woman but her beachballesque figure was perfect to capture the rounded cuteness of pinup.
Why do I see her sons twenty years from now laughing over these pictures - but their friends saying, “Your mom was a betty!”
And lucky boys they will be! When you have a mom and a dad who are this much fun and take this time to capture how much you mean to them even before you are born, you are loved beyond emasure.
Pinup is a liberating photo style.
Pinup is fun. With a pinup style, you are allowed to exaggerate, to have some fun. If you are the type of person who feels awkward in front of a camera, this could be a style for you, be it maternity, boudoir, or even couple sessions. After all, if you are not having fun, why do it?
What does pinup take? Start with a theme, think of the outfit, talk to me, then get some attitude. For pinup, unless you are skilled with hair and makeup, I would suggest a woman employ someone who can do retro styles, such as Kayla’s pin curl. When Kayla said she wanted a nautical theme, which will match the theme for the boys’ nursery, I went looking and found a vintage life preserver and ship’s wheel. Ass some fish nets, steamer trunks, and a simple blue seamless background and there you have it!
Speaking of the boys, Kayla also used the signs she has already made to be displayed over their cribs.
Images like this bring happiness to the world, wouldn’t you agree?
